Home Repair

An elderly woman has new porches, ramp, and windows

The Housing Development Alliance works with current homeowners to obtain needed repairs.  Nearly 50% of the housing units in Perry County are valued at $50,000 or less, and 25% of the homes were built prior to 1960.  Together, these facts indicate that many homes are significantly sub-standard.  Our rehabs vary from building a new porch to replacing siding and windows to re-pitching a roof (or completing all three).

Our housing counseling staff works hard to ensure these repairs are affordable to our clients. Many are elderly and are on a fixed income from Social Security. We work with several funding sources:
~ USDA-Rural Development
~ Affordable Housing Trust Fund
~ HPCHDA Revolving Loan Fund
~ volunteer fees
to create long-term, low-interest loans to families who could not otherwise afford to have their home repaired.

Volunteers nail pickets along a new porchOur volunteer program is crucial to our rehab work. By contributing their hard work and volunteer fees, Housing Development Alliance volunteers, both local and out-of-town, make our work considerably cheaper to the family, and we are able to accomplish more work than by simply acting as a contractor.
