Accommodations Larger groups (9 or more) stay at First Presbyterian Church of Hazard in various Sunday school and fellowship rooms. You will need to bring your own sleeping bags/air mattresses. Some cots may be available. The church offers plenty of space with a good-sized kitchen. Smaller groups (8 or fewer) stay at the Mission Cottage, located next door to the church. The Mission Cottage is a fully furnished two bedroom house with four sets of bunk beds. You may choose to use both the church and Mission Cottage if availability allows. Both buildings have window air conditioning units. You are responsible for providing your own meals. The kitchens of both facilities have all the pots, pans and other cooking utensils you need, as well as faltwear, plates and glasses. We encourage you to shop for your groceries in our community. Directions to local grocery stores will be provided upon your arrival. |

Relaxing on a porch surrounded by home-grown tomatoes, Bonnie Crabtree reflected upon her experiences as a homeowner. She joyfully recounted Christmas 2000, when the Housing Development Alliance handed her the key to her new home. She still remembers her excitement. “I love my home– I wouldn’t take anything for it,” she gleams.
Inside her home, family pictures cover the walls. Bonnie emphasized the opportunities this home gives her to be with family. All of the room and comfort of the home allow her to have her granddaughter over occasionally, a fact she boasts with all the pride a grandmother should have. She also enjoys having her brothers over. “We’ll be here forever,” she affirms with security. |
