In their own words...

"Home equals security and identity...Homes provide a place where families can come together...I think it's a place where you feel most comfortable...Home means having my own space...A home to someone who has never had their own can be a sanctuary and an accomplishment.  A home to me is wherever I feel loved...A home is where you spend your time with others and feel peace.  When I think of my home, I see my family at our house.  I never see just a house. "

"We are making a huge impact to this house- it's amazing.  So many neighbors are stopping by too to check out the progress.  Many are amazed at the fact that we traveled so far to do this work...I feel great knowing I am serving the people within the community...There is always someone affected in a positive way...I think everyone we worked for really appreciated the work we did for them...We finished four days of work in two!  All our hard work paid off...  I really was moved by how well we all came together."

"This week has been great so far... we will be going back to school on Monday with such a positive mindset just because of all the good we are doing for this community.  This experience has been amazing!...I feel like we are making a great impact.  Alma and everyone around appreciates what we have done with the house.  Alma's niece even baked us a cake.  That was the best cake I've ever had!...When we were at Alma's house I felt like she really appreciated what we were doing and I was happy to do the work...This was so great.  We really did a lot as a team and had a great time."

"I will remember how I've gotten a lot closer to my friends.  Not to mention the lasting impressions we've made on the people here.  I'm so glad we were able to do that...What surprised me most was the Artisan Center and Appalshop.  I had no idea the area was doing such interesting and useful things to honor their history, heritage, and future...The people, the community, the accent, the land...It's such a beautiful place....I'm taking knowledge with me...the knowledge that I can be handy and build things, and also the knowledge of another kind of culture in my own country...I loved it here!"
