Volunteer Fee
The volunteer fee is $175 per person per week. We reimburse First Presbyterian to cover some of their costs of providing housing. The remainder goes to the Housing Development Alliance to help our clients. This fee allows the Housing Development Alliance to assist families who could not otherwise be assisted.

"I think a home would mean everything to a person who has never had their own. To me a home means shelter; a warm and loving place to be with my family... Owning a home must be a special feeling for anyone, especially a homeowner for the first time. Owning a home, I think, would give you that sense of stability and security we all desire... Homes are seen as forever... My home has become a part of my family... For me, its the place I feel most comfortable, and the only place I know I'll be loved no matter what. I think the home can serve as a place of refuge not only from the weather and the elements, but also from tough times in the world."
St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia, PA contributed 669 hours of volunteer labor, helped construct 6 affordable new homes, and provided 2 affordable home repairs!
"The work we've done the past couple days has been a lot of fun. It feels great to look back and see all we have accomplished. It was awesome, seeing the fruits of my labor... I've been surprised with how much our small group has accomplished so far....The work that we've done has been extremely important to me, not simply because of what I'm helping to do for others but also because I've gained a lot of pride in this work...I will always remember the times when everyone was working together on the same project. It was hard, but it was so fun to work together as a team and accomplish something huge. I will never forget that...I never knew how much I was capable of doing construction-wise and how enjoyable it could be. My favorite part was eating lunch on the roof...I will always remember this trip and spread the word to others about all that can be done.."
"One thing I will take from this trip is how important it is to give back to communities and help others wherever I can to work towards making a difference, and that even the help of one individual can make a difference. This experience has also taught me to value and appreciate everything I am fortunate enough to have... I know now that one day someone will live more comfortably because of my contributions... I didn't realize how much of an impact this trip would be. It has left a lasting impression on my heart, one that I will take with me through all aspects of my future."
