High Street Housing is a 10-unit single room occupancy (SRO) apartment building which provides permanent affordable rental housing to formerly homeless people who have successfully participated in homeless services through Hazard Perry County Community Ministries.  Completed in 1999, High Street Housing is comprised of efficiency apartments, each with a private bath and a kitchenette.  Located in downtown Hazard, High Street Housing offers a convenient location as well as the option of retaining support services through Community Ministries’ case managers.  Rent includes essential utilities and is subsidized according to each tenant’s income through Kentucky Housing Corporation's offices in West Liberty, Kentucky.  Tenants pay either 30% of their monthly income or $50, whichever is greater.

Interior of apartment 104Through the Housing Development Alliance’s partnership in our local Continuum of Care, a network of 30+ social service agencies in Hazard and Perry County, High Street Housing plays a critical role in the federal government’s mandate of ending chronic homelessness in ten years.  Many of our tenants were chronically homeless prior to moving to High Street.  A significant number of our tenants and clients formerly participating in the Continuum of Care have moved onto becoming homeowners through the Housing Development Alliance.

Guyla's Grace is a high-quality, barrier-free rental home in the Lothair section of Hazard, constructed in partnership between the Housing Development Alliance and YouthBuild Hazard. Designed for a low-income family with a member who uses a wheelchair or has other mobility impairment, this house includes several features for families in need of an accessible rental unit:

~ 3 large bedrooms
~ roll-in shower
~ tub with transfer seat
~ step-less entries
~ accessible kitchen design
~ wider hallways
~ 1,350 sq. ft.
~ carport
